Loremaster of Pandaria Guide

Updated for World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth 8.0.1 Mists of Pandaria guide banner

As with most expansion sets in the World of Warcraft game, you could reach level cap without finish all the storylines in each zone. You should check the WoW Loremaster Calculator to see how far you have gotten and which characters are closest to completing the Loremaster of Pandaria zone achievements.

My IRL obligations took priority towards the end of the Cataclysm expansion, so I did not play Pandaria when it was current content. My experience with the Pandaria leveling zones was the Jade Forest and a few quests in the Valley of the Four Winds sometime right before the launch of Legion. With full heirloom gear, that is all it took to progress from 85 to 90. As I complete my own Loremaster achievement I have a lot of work to do in finishing off the Pandaria zones.

Flying Mounts

MoP mount vendor Prior to the Legion 7.3.5 patch, each character you wanted to unlock flying on in the Pandaria zones needed to spend 2,500 gold on the Wisdom of the Four Winds scroll to unlock flying. This item was only available to characters level 85 or higher, which meant that had to use ground mounts while leveling. If you have been putting off completing the Loremaster of Pandaria because of this, then I have some good news for you! The 7.3.5 leveling zone changes also removed the requirement to purchase flying for Azeroth, Northrend, and Pandaria. If you train Expert Flying at level 60, you can fly anywhere in WoW except for the Draenor and Legion zones.

Storyline

Mists of Pandaria was the first time Blizzard tried to follow one main narrative through the entire expansion. Each content patch expanded upon the central story, culminating with the events of the Siege of Orgrimmar raid. As such, storytelling and narrative delivery was a major design aspect of Pandaria, and that comes through in the quest content. Whether or not you enjoy the story they are telling is up to you.

The events of Mists of Pandaria take place after Deathwing's defeat in the end of the Cataclysm expansion. With the tensions rising between the Horde and Alliance, the hidden continent of Pandaria is re-discovered in the mists created to hide it from the rest of the world. As the two sides come to blows in the Jade Forest, they discover the Sha: a malignant force in Pandaria that manifests as physical representations of negative emotions.

The central theme of the story is the conflict between the Alliance and Horde reflected by the Sha. The peoples and lands of Pandaria themselves have rich backstories that are explored as you progress through the leveling content. These individual stories explain the Sha and view the conflict between the Horde and Alliance in a different light.

The story-driven experience of Mists of Pandaria was polarizing in the WoW community at launch. It was different stylistically from the what we had seen before in the game. People reacted strongly to it, both positively and negatively. If you can approach it with an open mind and let go of any pre-conceived expectations you get from a trip to the forums, you will find it to be a fun and engaging bit of content and a story worth listening to.

Where to Start

Jade Forest Dragon statue The level zone updates released during the Legion 7.3.5 patch changed the requirements for accessing the Pandaria leveling zones. Prior to 7.3.5, you had to visit your faction capitol to pick up a quest to start the Jade Forest story lines and get access to the continent of Pandaria.

Now, the Pandaria zones share a level range with the Cataclysm content. Both expansions’ zones will become available on the Command Boards in capital cities and the Adventure Guide menu based on your character's level, starting at level 80. Quests and monsters within the Pandaria zones will scale with your characters level up to a max level of 90. The level ranges for the individual Pandaria zones are shown below.
